Ambassador Karl Hofmann
President and CEO, Population Services International (PSI)

Prior to being named President and CEO of PSI in February of 2007, Karl Hofmann was a career American diplomat. He served 23 years variously as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Togo, Executive Secretary of the State Department, and Deputy Chief of Mission (Senior Career Diplomat) at the U.S. Embassy in Paris. He also served on President Clinton’s National Security Council staff and is the recipient of the State Department’s Distinguished Honor Award. Hofmann’s years living and working in Africa and the Caribbean have given him a deep understanding of development issues, including public health and especially HIV/AIDS. Hofmann is a graduate of Georgetown University and the National Defense University.
